Is Cursor safe to use at work?

Cursor's agent mode can run shell commands and edit files, and auto-run settings let it act without a prompt — powerful, and risky unguarded. Made safe means the same three things as any coding agent: review the auto-run/allowlist settings, add a fail-closed hook that blocks destructive actions before they run, protect secret files, and keep a record you can verify. Scopebond adds the checkpoint and the record via .cursor/hooks.json.

The checklist

Add the hook

npx @scopebond/hook@latest init --cursor
scopebond-hook log
scopebond-hook verify

On Windows, type npx.cmd instead of npx in PowerShell: its default script policy blocks npx, and npx.cmd works in PowerShell and Command Prompt alike.

What this does not do

The hook checks actions Cursor sends through its tools. It does not cover actions taken outside the agent, guarantee an outcome, or read your code. The alpha is for controlled test use.

FAQ

Is Cursor's YOLO / auto-run mode safe?

It removes the per-action prompt, so pair it with a fail-closed hook that blocks destructive actions before they run and a record of what happened.

Does Scopebond work the same for Cursor and Claude Code?

Yes — one policy and one record format govern both; install once and both are covered.
